New Delhi: Indian Premier League organisers have agreed to drop a contentious clause in the media guidelines relating to the uploading of photographs on the IPL website within 24 hours and that should end the threatened media boycott of the Twenty20 tournament starting on April 18.
Though there was no official word on the understanding reached between the IPL and the news agencies, it is learnt that IPL chief Lalit Modi is believed to have informed the news agencies that all restrictions on the newspapers subscribing to their photo service and also their websites using the pictures have been lifted.

Mohali (PTI): Punjab Cricket Association is ready to host the Indian Premier League opener between Yuvraj Singh-led Kings XI and Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings on Saturday.
PCA stadium has been host to six Test matches featuring West Indies (1994), Sri Lanka (1997), New Zealand (1999 and 2003), England (2001) and Pakistan (2005).
As if it wasn’t odd enough to see both Stephen Fleming and Mutthiah Muralitharan in bright yellow jerseys, the colour of their Chennai IPL team’s jersey and also that of their most bitter on field rivals Australia, the Sri Lankan, on top of that, was wearing a No 7 jersey with Dhoni written on it.
With many rivals playing with each other and many teammates pitted against each other, Saturday’s match between the Punjab IPL team and the Chennai IPL team promises a rare prospect of Yuvraj plotting the downfall of MS Dhoni, Brett Lee having a go at Matthew Hayden, and Muralitharan trying to outsmart Mahela Jayawardene. “Look, its not about me against Dhoni,” Yuvraj, captain of the Punjab IPL team, said in Chandigarh on Thursday.
INDIA’s two great obsessions of Bollywood and cricket come together with tonight’s launch of the multi-million dollar Indian Premier League in what is planned to be a frenzied extravaganza of glitz and glamour that will set the tone for a global revolution in the game.
From the Sydney Morning Herald.
REPORTS that a Texan billionaire and English officials are planning a $US20 million Twenty20 match does not surprise Brett Lee. Neither does the suggestion that England will soon field a 20-over competition to rival the Indian Premier League, nor that the IPL is planning on staging two tournaments a year from 2009.
With a front-row seat to cricket’s latest revolution, Lee believes Twenty20 cricket will continue to expand globally over the coming years. And the Australian paceman, who will make his debut for the Kings XI Punjab IPL franchise on Saturday, is adamant administrators must make allowances to prevent players becoming embroiled in messy club-versus-country disputes.
“Twenty20 is now a proven form of the game and, as we have seen all over the world in the last few years, it is something the fans love,” Lee said from Mohali last night. “It’s not too hard to see other people wanting to get on board and competitions popping up around the place, especially if the IPL is successful.
Mohali (PTI): Indian Premier League franchise Kings XI Punjab will start sale of tickets for the matches at PCA Stadium on Saturday.
Team co-owner Preity Zinta and Australian paceman Brett Lee would be present to personally sell and autograph the tickets.
Ticket are priced in the range of Rs 50-3,000 and people can buy them online as well.
There will be exclusive corporate boxes, where viewers will have a great viewing experience along with one of the best hospitality services catering to their needs, officials said.
“Brett and me are going to be at the PCA Stadium tomorrow to personally sell and autograph tickets to all the cricket lovers. I would personally want to request all the ardent followers of the sport to come tomorrow at the PCA Stadium and buy tickets to be a part of the cricketing action that we are going to witness in the upcoming days in Mohali,” Preity said.
